THE KANGA TOWEL

Limited Edition

Regular price $150
Description

The kanga is one of East Africa’s most beloved textiles: a cotton cloth worn along the Swahili coast for more than a century as a wrap, shawl, baby sling, head covering, and gift marking life’s milestones.

Traditionally, each kanga is distinguished by a central design, known as the mji, a border called the pindo, and a Swahili proverb printed along the bottom. These messages speak of patience, wisdom, love, resilience, and quiet defiance. At times, opposing proverbs are worn as gentle disagreements.

Made from a vintage kanga sourced in Tanzania, this limited-edition towel preserves the textile’s original design, message, and character. Kenyan artisans back it with soft terry, creating a generously sized towel for wrapping up, laying out, or bringing to the beach, sauna, or home.

Machine washable and colorfast.
