THE MANYATTA PILLOW

One of a Kind

Regular price $300
Description

These beautifully handcrafted pillows are made by the Antassia collective in Northern Kenya, founded in 2008 by Antonia Stogdale in partnership with the Mokogodo Maasai mamas (women). The collective beads using traditional methods refined with modern innovations, such as a distinctive double-threading technique that creates a tight, elegant weave.

Panels are crafted from brilliant glass beads and stitched onto 100% cotton vintage kanga cloth, sourced in Kenya. Each pillow is a unique mix of patterns and color combinations, embellished with contrast piping and an envelope enclosure for cushion removal.

Each pillow is the result of two to three weeks of painstaking artistry. Every bead becomes income, supporting food security, children’s education, and independence for the women who choose how to direct their earnings.

The pillows are singular works of art, styled together or on their own, each carrying the spirit of its maker and the living memory of an ancestral tradition into the home.
